ALM7 Conference Breakout Sessions

Themes

As the ALM7 conference committee began reading the proposal submissions, themes began to emerge for us. We have used these nine themes to help organize the program for those who may wish to follow a particular strand or two throughout. While most of the offerings cover more than one theme, we have attempted to highlight one main theme for each session and indicate that with color and initials.

Key:

Assessment/frameworks/standards (AFS) sessions focus on large-scale issues of mathematics content and assessment.

Contexts (C) sessions highlight one or more specific contexts in which adults practice mathematics.

Instructional Approaches (IA) sessions present curricula and/or instructional strategies to support adults learning mathematics.

Parents (P) sessions raise issues surrounding parents, children, and mathematics.

Research into Practice (RP) sessions present purposeful connections between research and practice.

Teacher Knowledge (TK) sessions focus on the mathematical and pedagogical knowledge and practice of teachers.

Theory (T) sessions highlight one or more theories of adults learning mathematics.

Understandings (U) sessions pay attention to the ways in which adults think about mathematics.

Workplace/Vocational (W) sessions center on mathematical preparation for and use in the workplace.

Types of session

All sessions are designed to encourage the conversation between researchers and practitioners. The types of session are:
